Moon Pie
Moon Pie and her sister Luna were rescued when someone didn’t want them anymore and threatened to throw them out onto the street.
Sadly, this is not a new story for us, though Moon Pie and Luna were different than most cats. Neither of them could walk on their back legs and were not spayed. The reason their person didn’t want them anymore was because they had stopped using the litter box. The reason they stopped using the litter box was simple: they couldn’t get in and out of the new litter box she had purchased as it was too high for them, so her solution was to dump the sweet sisters.
The idea of these two girls defenseless, not sterilized, and tossed out like garbage made us jump into action. We secured their rescue and had them sterilized. Luna had luxating patellas. She had surgery and shortly thereafter, she went onto her new and fantastic home. We don’t often separate family members if they are bonded, but these two sisters really didn’t care for each other, so we decided they would be happiest in separate homes.
Moon Pie was born with deformed back legs. She’s not in pain and it doesn’t stop her from getting around, but it does pose some litter box issues since she can’t simply step in and out of a normal litter box. We found a couple of litter boxes with super-low sides, put down pee pads, and she quickly learned that this is where she goes to the bathroom and she hasn’t missed the box since!
Moon Pie is very, very sweet and gentle and loves everyone. What she would love the most is a sponsor to ensure she continues to live a long and happy life here at Milo’s Sanctuary.
