Cecil Rumblebelly
Cecil was rescued by Herman and Bear’s mom in Phoenix, wandering around the school where she worked. It was obvious that he had been abandoned by his humans and was sick, confused, and starving. Even though he was skin and bones and seemed weak, he seemed friendly when he squeaked his little meow at her for help. She scooped him up and took him straight to the veterinarian.
After a full examination and blood tests, we discovered he was not only 8-9 years old, but FIV+ and diabetic (his glucose was in the 500 range, normal for a cat is around 70-120). It took days in the hospital to rehydrate him and get his glucose under control.
Once he was stable, our President, Michele, drove to Phoenix and brought him back to the Sanctuary. He immediately fit right in with all the other cats and they all greeted him with nose kisses and upraised tails as if he’d been there forever.
Cecil loves food and treats, and more than anything, he likes hanging out with the other cats; giving everyone strong but loving head-butts and receiving well-deserved kisses from all the humans who meet him.
Cecil is on insulin twice a day and needs glucose curves on a regular basis. What makes his treatment even more sensitive is that he’s FIV+, so he must be monitored very closely.
What Cecil needs now are sponsors to cover the costs of his insulin, insulin needles, glucose curves, and regular vet visits to make sure he stays healthy and happy. He might even share one of his treats with you!
