LAVEAU
LAVEAU
Laveau was rescued from a local shelter hours before she was to be euthanized; her young life was to be cut short. Why? Because she's blind, and she's black. Black cats are always the first to be euthanized and the last to be adopted in most situations because of ridiculous and outdated superstitions. And, because she was born blind, it was a double whammy.
When we rescued her, she was gravely ill with an upper respiratory infection and a high fever. Her foster mom spent over a week force feeding her, giving her subcutaneous fluids, medications, lots of love and 24 hour care.
Laveau recovered and quickly began to show her amazing personality. This little girl LOVES everyone she meets and purrs constantly. She loves to play and chase her little ball with the bell all around her foster's kitchen. She's learning to play with other kitties and to navigate in her new environment, and she is doing very well. Most people are amazed she's blind.
Laveau recently had to undergo emergency eye surgery to remove her right eye that had ruptured because of being entropion (which means her eyelashes are growing inwards and constantly rubbing and irritating her eyes, causing ulcerations and infections). She is doing well and healing, but unfortunately, our vet believes that the other eye will have to be removed as well. We are trying our best to save it with daily medications and ointments; she tolerates it all with a purr and a head butt.
Through your sponsorship Laveau will have another eye surgery if necessary and a long, healthy and happy life, and for this she can never thank you enough!
